Where is Ahnwee Minnesota?

Learn more about our fearless mayor

Hi, this is Sybil Voss, and I’m running for County Board.

My tiny town of Ahnwee, Minnesota, is being threatened from all sides by people who want to tear it down for their own gain. Well, honestly, one of them probably has a point, but still, we are here. We are 200 mostly old people who don’t go out much, but this is our town and we are not going anywhere, unless they make us.

Sure, Ahnwee is just a yarn store, antique shop, strip joint, and meth lab, but it’s OUR yarn store, antique shop, strip joint, and meth lab.

When I moved back to Ahnwee from my adopted and happy home of New York City, it was a shock. Even though I grew up here, I had gotten quite used to quality coffee and real bagels and sentient rats man-spreading on the subway. But I was welcomed with open arms. And by open arms, I mean ignored.

But I knew that by taking care of my dad, Dan, I was in for the duration, so I tried to make the best of it. When there was an opening for Mayor, I jumped on it. This was my chance to be of service to my community, to bring tourists to town with an annual Founders Day celebration, and to have something to do.

And while I ran unopposed, I’m honored to say I won by two votes.

As mayor, I had big goals. Maybe I could clean up Lake Ahnwee so that it doesn’t keep us wake any longer, maybe get a proper sized base for the wind turbine so cars don’t get four-ironed into the field, and maybe even do something about the smell.

Not much luck with any of that, I have to admit.

Now Ahnwee is threatened from all sides by powerful people who want to take our town. Not on my watch! By working together, we will fight for our homes, for our way of life, and for our smelly town.

What I stand for:

  • Small towns and their right to not be torn down

  • Fresh air and clear lakes

  • Wind power, but not from Wind Energy Now

  • Good strong coffee

What I’m against:

  • Greedy so-in-sos who want to take our town
